We now have the 3rd Thursday reserved. However, I've also been talking with Tyler of MODE Visual who is heading up the PHP group. They have about the same number of members on their mailing list and the same number of attendees at their meetings. They are meeting on Wednesdays. So, I'm looking at a couple of possibilities: 1. Join up with the PHP group for our meetings - I think combining the groups would create more energy and hopefully more attendees. It would also provide a larger pool of potential speakers and topics. 2. Move our meeting dates to the 4th Wednesday - Moving our meeting would allow us to attend the Raleigh PM meeting and vice versa. Please give me your feedback. I'm game for carpooling as well. Also, just to put this on peoples' radar, one of the CouchDB developers will be in Charlotte off and on during March. The PHP people might be interested as he developed the PHP interface for CouchDB. I'd be interested in either setting up a q&a session or a more informal, beer-based, meeting with him: http://jan.prima.de/~jan/plok/archives/118-CouchDB-Presentation-Marathon.html Cheers, Mike William McKee wrote: > Hey mongers, > > As I've mentioned in a previous message, we've been working with CPCC to > have a meeting space with spacious seating, projector and connectivity. > We now have the 3rd Thursday reserved. > > However, I've also been talking with Tyler of MODE Visual who is heading > up the PHP group. Never heard of it until now. I could really use something like this at work right now. It might make sense to join the groups for a while if the majority of members feel like they are working with PHP enough to get benefit out of this. I know I have my hand in 4+ languages at the moment... so one meeting covering two languages sounds good. Take what I say with a grain of salt since I haven't been able to participate lately.... I have used php heavily in the past and there are a lot of similarities between the languages. You also often end up using so many of the same tools such as mysql, phpMyAdmin, vim, cvs, subversion, apache etc. that our groups would share many of the same interests. I've never heard of one here in Charlotte. I haven't been to the Charlotte LUG in years so not sure how much of the A,M,&P side of things they cover. I know many of my User Group links need serious updating: http://www.matthewlefevre.com/wiki/article.php/Charlotte_User_Groups I got distracted recently with Ruby/Rails and Groovy/Grails and my PHP site is falling apart! lol Would love to trade MySQL ideas with people. I'm ramping up for the 2 developers exams now. Speaking of PHP - maybe kicking up a second thread but... Anyone have any thoughts on: CakePHP vs Code Ignitor vs Zend Framework vs Symfony vs etc... I'm leaning towards a site rewrite in CakePHP, it seems to map well to the Rails/Grails way of thinking... maybe more so than the others. Thoughts? CakePHP Drawbacks? By the way after some serious digging I was able to find this podcast on CouchDB: http://takingnotes.openntf.org/blogs/takingnotes.nsf/dx/taking-notes-episode-23-06.07.06.htm Matt -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed...
