Hi Bill,
Thanks for your email. Sorry for this belated reply.
Parking - We all had the $5 parking fine. We have got to find a free
parking space on campus or hold our meetings offsite. As a
taxpayer, I find it outrageous that UNCC puts up barriers to making the
campus accessible to the community. No wonder I had never been there
until this year.
Gami et al., any word on where us outsiders can park after 6pm?
Meeting topics - I like your suggestion of creating a topics list. I
have setup a wiki[1] which should provide the forum where the group can
maintain the topics for upcoming meetings. I have added a MeetingTopics
page for upcoming events, volunteers, and suggestions. Please add your
ideas and, better yet, signup to present (even if it's just 15 minutes).
If you have other ideas for managing a schedule, please share them.
Wiki - The wiki is not linked from our homepage yet. I'd like to get
some content added before making it the default homepage. Feel free to
add anything you'd like. The homepage needs some attention for those
with a designer's eye.
Next meeting: Gami, are you going to be able to do the BioPerl demo?
Anyone else have a topic that they would like to present? I'll be doing
the training which will look at Perl variables including the special
variables (e.g., $_, $/, $., etc). I'll send an announcement out over
the weekend.
Thanks,
William

Hey Bill,
I came across an article about pseudocode[1] which contains a
description, examples and links to more material. Should give you plenty
of information. I've added it to the wiki as well.

Charlotte Perl Mongers
My apologies for this belated meeting notice. We've had some difficulties in
securing information about parking and meeting location. The summary is that
there is no free parking on campus during weekdays until after 9:30pm.
Furthermore, due to changes in university policy, we will not be able to meet
in the library.
Given the lateness and the fact that a projector (and hopefully internet
access) will be available, my plans are to hold the meeting at UNCC. Once
again, we'll be in the Cone Center. This time in room 265; look for signs or
ask at the information desk if you have troubles finding the room. Send a
message to the list if you have other locations in mind.
Gami has suggested some alternate parking across the street for those who
would like to save the $5 parking fee. Hopefully, he'll be able to send more
information to the mailing list.
Speaking of alternates, I plan to take a few minutes at the beginning of the
meeting to review optional meeting sites. I think the university area is a
good central location for our group. If you know any businesses that would be
willing to host our meeting, please bring your ideas to the meeting or send
them to the list.
So, I had the opportunity to learn more about wikis while setting up the wiki
for the website. Come see what the rage is all about and how to install and
use a wiki.
See you offline,
William McKee

Subject: [Charlotte.PM] Perl Meetup 9/16 @ 6:30 pm, UNCC
Message-ID:
Hello Everyone,
This is to invite you all for the Perl Meetup, on Thursday, September 16,
2004 at 6:30 pm. The Meetup will be held in Room 265, Cone Centre,
University of North Carolina at Charlotte.
The first half hour will be spent on the second part of the Perl Tutorial,
being conducted by William McKee.
There is no fixed agenda as of now for the rest of the meeting, so we'll
probably just discuss various issues related to Perl, and other tech
issues. So far, we haven't had a problem with topics to discuss, but we do
have problems deciding that the meeting's over.
For visitors to UNC Charlotte, you'll need to park in the Cone Visitor
Deck, and just walk across to the Cone Centre. You'll find little posters
put up announcing the Perl Meetup all over the building.
Some people had faced some problems with parking in the last meet, and I
found out from the Parking Services that they do not offer free parking
during weekdays before 9:30 pm. If this is reason enough to consider
shifting our meeting times to some other day/time, we could discuss that
in the coming meet.
If there are any other questions, feel free to ask on the list, or contact
me off the list.
regards,
Gami

Hey Gami,
Did you mean to send this to the UNCCLUG list or are you just being
thorough? I plan to give a short presentation on wikis and show how to
use the new Charlotte PM wiki. Also, since we're no longer using the
meetup website to coordinate meetings and have an official Perl Mongers
chapter, let's call the meetings the Charlotte Perl Mongers or Charlotte
PM for short.
Thanks,
William
