Li sobre este projeto em uma outra lista de discussão, e descobri que
uma boa parte do projeto será desenvolvida em Perl. : )

O objetivo é fazer com que o MS Office possa abrir documentos do
OpenOffice diretamente, de forma a incentivar o uso de padrões
abertos.

The main feature of this plan is simplicity.  It requires no new
concepts to be explored, no significant development, and leverages the
huge existing body of work already created by the OpenOffice.org
developers, the CPAN module authors, and the Microsoft .NET and Office
teams.

Initial ballpark estimates are for less than 2,000 lines of code and
only a few hundred hours of development time to get to an initial
stable release of the O3 client and server.

As OpenOffice.org improves, only a server-side upgrade is required.
The existing client components will do a better and better job of the
translation.
