I go by the handle "Arafangion", and I fall in the category of having a 
passing interest in the language, having had to use it for a task. (I 
was able to use a given selection of languages, and perl was the only 
scripting language available)

    I learnt just enough to do the task (textual data conversion), but 
haven't learnt how to do use libraries or subroutines - just very, very, 
very basic perl.  However, I was very impressed with the language - it 
seems somehow more tuned for writing scripts than python, and seems more 
expressive - though I did find it curious that by default it doesn't 
allow named groups in regexps.

I do most of my coding in C and Python.
