 I asked Damian Conway about the status of Perl6.
I was encouraged by his reply (cf, below).

We're working very hard on at least three parallel implementation 
efforts, which are feeding off each other. We also have a complete grammar for 
Perl 6 specified (in Perl 6 itself!) so we're moving much closer to having a 
full interpreter for the language.
