The module (Quantum::Superpositions -- it's on CPAN) simulates what quantum computing will be like, allowing massively parallel computations with single operations. The module isn't all that useful for everyday things, but it illustrates some fascinating concepts and completely different ways to look at things. I will do an hour or so on an intro to quantum mechanics, qubits, quantum supercomputing, and the Quantum::Superpositions module." See you on Tuesday! -Dan P.S - We really will be having the meeting this month - unlike August ;-) From magog at the-wire.com Sun Sep 10 14:54:22 2006 From: magog at the-wire.com (Michael Graham) Date: Sun, 10 Sep 2006 17:54:22 -0400 Subject: [Buffalo-pm] Pittsburgh Perl Workshop - Sep 23 Message-ID: <20060910175422.0b6a87d7@caliope> The Pittsburgh Perl Workshop is two weeks away! The workshop will be a one day conference (held on Saturday Sept 23). It's a low-cost event, but there are a lot of high-value speakers lined up. More details here: http://pghpw.org/index.html Here's what Google thinks the driving times look like: From KW: 6.5 hours From Toronto: 6 hours From Buffalo: 4 hours People who are driving will probably want to drive up Friday evening and return Sunday morning. The workshop site has info on accommodation. So now's the time to book rooms, arrange carpooling, etc. Please follow-up on list(s) if you're interested in attending! Message-ID: All, I am looking into different portal frameworks that will allow me to hook my various applications into one view (which is I guess is the definition of a portal). I was looking at Liferay (http://www.liferay.com) which is a really cool portal application, but everything is J2EE, and even the portlets that you can build into it need to be J2EE. In looking around for other portal frameworks, I've noticed that it's heavily dominated by Java/J2EE. I'm looking for a portal framework that has a more open interface/API (Perl, PHP, etc) to create the various portlets within the portal. The two that I have found which seem to offer an open environment include: Apache Portals Project http://portals.apache.org CGI-Portal http://search.cpan.org/~alpo/CGI-Portal-0.02/Portal.pm Has anyone used anything else, or know of another portal application/framework that will allow me the flexibility to use any language I want for creating the portlets? The more that is already done in setting up the portal framework, the better, as I am not trying to create a new portal application (I'd rather focus on creating the portlets). Any help would be appreciated. Thanks! -Dan From joshua.mcadams at gmail.com Thu Sep 21 13:55:06 2006 From: joshua.mcadams at gmail.com (Joshua McAdams) Date: Thu, 21 Sep 2006 15:55:06 -0500 Subject: [Buffalo-pm] Portal Framework... Any help would be appreciated. I'm not so sure about creating portlets in any language, but WebGUI (http://www.plainblack.com/) is supposedly pretty easy to extend. It's also Perl-based :) From dmagnuszewski at mandtbank.com Mon Sep 25 10:22:38 2006 From: dmagnuszewski at mandtbank.com (DANIEL MAGNUSZEWSKI) Date: Mon, 25 Sep 2006 13:22:38 -0400 Subject: [Buffalo-pm] Fwd: [tpm] OT: FOSS conference Message-ID: Yet another conference...
