If anyone can suggest a good pub or vegetarian friendly restaurant, that would be superb. If it's possible to arrange someone or somewhere with a data projector then Paul would love to give a presentation on Web Development with Perl or Starting a Business or Perl Security.... Following the success of the Conference in 2004 we would again like to invite people to participate in the OSDC Conference 2005. Details of the Conference and Call for papers are on the osdc web site (see below). Regards Gerry Quinlan Member of OSDC 2005 Publicity Sub-Committee Announcement: OSDC 2005 is up and running. The second Australian OSDC (Open Source Developers' Conference) will be held on the 5th, 6th and 7th of December 2005 at Monash University in Melbourne. The 2004 Conference was an outstanding success with over 160 delegates attending, including a significant number from interstate and overseas. The quality of presentations and general enthusiasm of the attendees confirmed the growing reputation and strength of open source development in Australia. Most of last year's attendees plan to attend the conference again in 2005. In 2005, OSDC will be even bigger and better. OSDC is a great opportunity for open source devotees to attend an affordable conference where the main focus is software development. Companies and other organisations will find the conference an ideal avenue for providing professional development for staff, identifying trends and partners and promoting their services. I've been a bit spoilt by the java ide's i use that highlight unused variables and other code smells. I was given a task recently that has ended being a medium sized perl script and I want to refactor and tidy the code and am really missing my java ide. Any suggestions? Any suggestions? http://perl.net.au/wiki/Perl_developer_tools contains a list of tools. Perl.net.au is a wiki, so please be bold and add any new tools that you're aware of, or feel free to otherwise make improvements as you see fit. Looking forward to seeing you all on the 22nd August. We can offer seating for a smallish group (10 or so) plus a data projector, and probably one or two interested attendees as well. We're at 2/26 Brandl St, Eight Mile Plains. Imagine we could kick off 6pm'ish and then head for a dinner booking nearby 7:30-8pm. Derek Thomson knows the way out here... :-) ...otherwise transport and parking is pretty simple - about a 10 minute walk from the Eight Mile Plains bus station after catching the 111 express from the city, or park outside the building. I've got no problems with early starts, although it may be difficult for me to get there by 6pm, as I don't imagine that I'll be able to start travelling until about 5:30pm. Having said all that, I'm rather challenged when it comes to Brisbane geography, and have no idea how long it will take for me to travel from where I'm teaching ("near the casino") to Eight Mile Plains. If it's only a 30 minute trip by public transport (or if I can get a lift), then 6pm sounds just fine! I've downloaded Komodo and while it's syntax checking is good, it doesn't seem to tell me any variables I've declared (with my())... but not used anywhere. The list on the wiki is quite expansive but I don't want to check each one individually, can anyone suggest a technique or tool I can use to find out what variables I've declared but not used? Komodo does at runtime, check the options for Perl.
