I have done a bit of work in the bioinformatics space and have the 
Beginning Perl for Bioinformatics book if you want to borrow it as I'm not 
using it (at the moment).  I didn't end up doing the bioinfo stuff I had to 
do in perl but the book was a good help to get me started.
