From jeremy at msc.tamu.edu Mon Mar 20 07:49:01 2006 From: jeremy at msc.tamu.edu (Jeremy Fluhmann) Date: Mon, 20 Mar 2006 09:49:01 -0600 Subject: [Brazosvalley-pm] Recruiting new members Message-ID: <0EFEDF9D507FF6409CE7B4D24B20E7BFFFF079@xchng.msc.tamu.edu> Okay, so we now have three people signed up to the mailing list. Hooray!! Can anyone think of ways to get new members? I've sent an invitation message to a few people around campus, but haven't heard back, yet (it WAS before spring break, though). I've also put some "bookmark" marketing in a few Perl books in the library. I'm open to any and all ideas anyone else has. Does anyone know if there's a local Linux User Group around here? They're bound to have some Perl people. I'm also about to look at updating the web site. Suggestions? I want to make it look more like we're actually a group rather than we 'forming' a group. Thanks! I want to welcome the new members to the list. It looks like we have about 10 members on the list now and I'm glad that each of you joined. As you can probably tell from the website, the group is still working on getting established. If anyone is unfamiliar with Perl Mongers, some of the other groups around typically meet on a monthly basis and have social gatherings at various times. Some of the groups' monthly meetings (or however often) are technical and usually cover a topic that the group is interested in, such as Template Toolkit, comparison of GUI-toolkits for Perl, LWP, Perl 6, etc. I'm open to however the group would like to operate. If people would like to have some social gatherings at first to get to know everyone and see what topics we want covered in the technical meetings, then let me know. If anyone has any suggestions for anything, please feel free to share. I'm trying various techniques to get more people to join. If you know of anyone that might be interested in being a part of the group, please direct them to the list. Again, welcome and I look forward to meeting everyone! I just placed a help wnated ad in the Eagle for a perl person, so I'll mention Brazos Valley Perl Mongers to anyone I interview. Maybe a couple of people responding to my ad will be interested in the group. -- Ray B.
