The castle is pretty and worth a look, and on the hill there are nice
views over the old city. If you like castles, you can take a bus out to
Devin too, which is another castle that apparently has good views, but I
didn't make it there yet. You can walk over the New Bridge and towards
the Old Bridge to get a view of the old city from the other side, but
generally that side of the river is I think residential, so there's not
so much that I know of to do there.

The promenade by the river also extends some way west, and if you go
just a little way beyond the end of it, continuing by the river, there
is quite a nice area by the river that maybe is good for a picnic (I
walked this way yesterday and took some photos[1]).

The old city center is very nice to walk around and packed with
beautiful buildings (I love the main square), but is also an expensive
place to eat, so I suggest trying to find something outside the center
for food. I haven't many suggestions for this, but if you like pizza,
the one by the (aptly named!) Blue Church (on Grosslingova Ulica) serves
(IMO) delicious pizzas at OK prices and fairly cheap beer, plus they
have a menu in German too. And a warning: the Indian restaurant Ashoka
on Zivnostenska (certainly not cheap, but very good) has dishes marked
"hot" that really, really are. Even by I'm-a-spicy-food-eating-Brit
standards!

You're coming to a lovely city! Enjoy! :-)

Jonathan
