Subject: [Boulder.pm] laptop harddrive is not spinning

Does anyone have a recommendation of where to take a harddrive for data recovery. A friend's laptop harddrive has bit the dust and won't spin up. If it makes a difference, it is a Toshiba drive in a Dell laptop.
 
In Boulder area would be ideal, but Denver area will do.

My son has a  computer/networking business - he would consider seeing if
he can get it to work but does not do open the drive and try to read the
bits. - Don Lewis

I think Eagle Hi-tec (or tek or tech or teq) in Longmont used to do that, but they *MAY* have only done Miniscribe or Maxtor drives.

I used Reynolds (http://www.data-recovery.com/) in Longmont about 5 
years ago and they were fine. I didn't do much shopping around since
my company was footing the bill so I can't really comment on their
pricing.

Yeah, it has been on the bench plugged into one thing or another by a desktop guy most of the day and it quit spinning so think we need an inside the cover tech to rescue this poor thing.

well it wasn't overnight, but they had in the freezer for awhile this morning. good idea though, **I** didn't know that was a possible fix.
