UW-IMAP is really great if you make sure to use MBX format mailboxes 
instead of MBOX, which is the default. MBOX balks after about 45MB of 
mail. MBX is much faster and more stable-- the only drawback is that it 
can't be used on NFS share mounts. Also, IMP seems to be about the best 
web-based mailreader around, tho it's based on PHP. Check it out at 
horde.org.
