From bcollins at csd.net Sun Apr 2 22:21:37 2000 From: bcollins at csd.net (Bob Collins) Date: Wed Aug 4 23:58:18 2004 Subject: [boulder.pm] Re: Perl question Apology References: <38E51B86.DA3FB70C@csd.net> Message-ID: <38E80E41.43FE96D1@csd.net> To all who posted answers to my Perl Question, my apology. The problem I had with Perl was my assuming that a renaming program in it's simplist form would rename "oldfn" to "newfn". Some of you understood the code and tried to gently point this out to me, but sometimes, with me at least, it takes a good smack with a 2x4. My changing a line of code did produce the ability to rename "oldfn" to "newfn", but destroyed the ability to do all the other neat things. Sorry I didn't get this off sooner, but I was hoping I could come up with an explanation that didn't make me look quite so stupid. No such luck! Thanks again for your help. -- Regards, Bob Collins Mailto:bcollins@csd.net From walter at frii.com Wed Apr 5 21:56:39 2000 From: walter at frii.com (Walter Pienciak) Date: Wed Aug 4 23:58:18 2004 Subject: [boulder.pm] RE: Position for Perl Mongers (fwd) Message-ID: ---------- Forwarded message ---------- Date: Wed, 5 Apr 2000 17:03:03 -0600 From: Kari Saba To: 'Walter Pienciak' Subject: RE: Position for Perl Mongers Hi Walter! Message-ID: Hi, It's been a pretty quiet list for a few weeks; I know I've been busy getting ready for 2 weeks off. Plus a programmer did a Really Stupid Thing that led to much Fear, Consternation, and Scrambling, a Hard Talking-To, a Cleanup, and of course Reports To Senior Management. Always check your return values. I'm gone for the next 2 weeks, so I'll see you all then. This will be a non-computing vacation: no e-mail, no technical books, and my family has invoked our TWSNBM rule (That Which Shall Not Be Mentioned). Anything related to computers or network technology is strictly verboten. AOL commercials cause the channel on the hotel TV to be switched. I can't read the newspaper. (I'm not sure about all my freebie e-whatever T shirts -- I'll have to ask before I pack.) The last time they did this, we had 2 weeks in Florida, walking on the beach and looking for shells. By the time I got back to work, it took me a few minutes to remember how to log in, and a few hours to get all the Unix stuff in my head back on-line. It was my best vacation ever. Well, TTFN. I hope you remember the exhasted-bloody-sore rule. (That is, a good vacation can be defined as one that you return from exhasted, bloody, and sore!) The last vacation I had like that was an excursion to the top of a mountain -- it was about as far as one could get from computing... -- Joel
