Stevi suggests Casa Alvarez at 30th and Walnut. So twirling my finger around and around, and consulting my secret chart of other meetings . . . how about Wednesday October 6, 7:30 PM, at Casa Alvarez? 6:30? 7:00? 6:00? (I'm not good at this) Also, boulder.pm.org is now functional, albeit sparse. And the "official" mailing list is up, and you should be getting a subscription confirmation later tonight as I add you. It made me remember an old article in TPJ, so I dug it out and re-read it (issue #10, p. 10, "Infobots and Purl", Kevin Lenzo). I'm hoping that the sophistication of this kind of software will soon advance to the level where it will answer my user mail ("But I *want* a space in my filename!") ;^) I figure we can shoot ideas around at the social meeting too, where hopefully more people will appear. www.pm.org suggests inviting a Guru or Perl Personality to start things off with a bang, and though he's not on the list of people who've expressed an interest, there's at least one notable (and articulate) Boulder resident who obviously meets the description. Personally, I'm thinking that Boulder.pm is going to be useful for a wide range of users, and that the community might best be served by a first technical meeting covering "an introduction to Perl and the amazing fun and productivity possible". I can't think of a better evangelist than Tom, and I'd love to get him to speak. At some point I'll send him an e-mail about it. Here's the current state of things: 1) We're trying to zero in on a time/place to meet for the first time. It's gonna be a social get-together, and we've managed to at least settle on Casa Alvarez on Wednesday 6 October. But what time? If everyone puts in their $0.02, we should have $0.50 or so. ;^) 2) This list is not intended for announcements only. In fact, I don't expect that stuff will be limited to Perl. (Hey, anyone wanna go hiking or rock climbing?) This is a new list, so get comfortable and make yourself at home. We're talking about meeting at Case Alvarez on Wednesday October 6, at Casa Alvarez? But what time? 6:00? 6:30? 7:00? later? Can't come? Won't come? -- whatever, please respond, so we can figure out if Boulder.pm is viable or just a stupid idea. Let's get this locked down so we can get an announcement out before peoples schedules get too full. A question came in about Casa Alvarez. I've never been there, but I'm told it's at 30th and Walnut, and has "great mexican food, great margaritas, great prices, relatively easy to get a largish table."
