A modern textbook that covers briefly all the topics and skills that computer employers actually want (not what they teach in universities) and contains a detailed list of other references and 'must read' books and documents. Example topics off the top of my head : Java, C++, Perl, NT Admin, Managing Linux Servers, The Web, Internet protocols, etc. Each section is frank and honenst about the languages, servers, whatever and has the limitiations and advantages of each. >Oh, and we're having another meeting on Wed...
