It seems to me like this class went from 0-60 in about four lessons, and though I grasp what I'm supposed to be doing, I'm a little lost. Well, more than a little, but not a lot. Anyone out there got a few minutes? But, they will expect you to have done your own looking first. You can also ask on #austin or #austin-ruby. They are called MagNet I believe. It is the only way I could connect to #perl-help which I could not find on freenet. I also had trouble using xChat which I've been using as an irc client for years. Connecting to the MagNet servers with irssi is no problem though. There are channels for #perl-help, #moose, #catalyst, #austinpm, and pretty much anything having to do with Perl. The #perl on MagNet is different and not as helpful as the #perl on the freenode servers. I'll do anything to increase my Perl knowledge, so feel free to ask me anything that troubles you. I'll try to help you figure it out. I stand corrected. I mentioned to someone not long ago that I could not find #perl-help. I told him I used #perl when I needed help. He stated emphatically that one should never, ever ask for help in #perl. After a lengthy and somewhat strained conversation I determined that he had never heard of freenode and was unaware that its #perl was different that the MagNet. Conversely, at the time I had never heard of MagNet. Now I use them both. And by the grace of a very good friend - I am able to keep the irssi connection alive through a screen session on his server. I may be wrong, but it seems like #perl-help on MagNet is a little more helpful to beginners. And this screen/irssi setup is pretty great. I'm very excited about the conference and surrounding Perl-related events! I think within the next few days we will be making a big public YAPC announcement. The only beans I will spill to y'all right now is that it looks like Larry Wall will be able to come. Yay! Keep your eye out for more soon.
