Depending on what sort of response you go t to your call - if it was substantial and things are underway you can ignore what I'm saying here - but if it was a bit lackluster , then maybe we should consider running a strong Perl track in an Australian OSDC for 2017. The OSDC is aimed at a much larger audience (obviously) and enjoys a stellar reputation. Sadly, AFAICT, 2016 was the first time in the last 12 years that Australia didn't run an OSDC so, maybe that would increase interest in one late this year. There is now pycon and has been at least one PHP con. I fully support a YAPC::AU happening, or you running an OSDC. In either case I'd love to help. I haven't wielded it in a serious undertaking for years getting on to a decade, but I do use it on the command line almost daily and tend to "think in Perl" when writing in other languages (though I'm more likely to be writing specs for other people to code these days). I'd suggest getting SAGE-AU folks involved or at least informed, given SAGE-AU 2003 in Adelaide and Randal Schwartz as keynote speaker. Heck if you could do enough preliminary fundraising to fly Randal out there's no doubt he'd come. Also hit up namesake Damian Conway of Uni Melb.
