I would also like to open up an invite for a talk that we at MakeLV ( http://makelehighvalley.com/) are currently in the planning stages of hosting a talk with a semi-local and prominent member of Arch Linux on ARM. The talk will most likely be centered around the Raspberry Pi however other platforms will be mentioned. If anyone is interested in these tiny and cheap linux machines please send me some feedback so I may relay prefences to the speaker. The time has not been set yet for the talk but we do know it will be on some Saturday in December. Another reason why I am writing the list is too see if anyone would want to be involved or have old hardware to donate to our Open Stack project at our hacker space (located at 905 Harrison St. Allentown, PA). We don't have a clear objective for the project but the motivation behind the project is that we feel it would be cool to build our own cloud. Once again, send me some feedback if you have hardware, interest, or wisdom to share in general. If anyone is interested with Make Lehigh Valley we have a mailing list to subscribe too if you wish located on the site. Sounds cool. I keep meaning to make it over to the Hive, but I don't drive, so it's sort of a pain. That said... > The talk will most likely be centered around the Raspberry Pi however other > platforms will be mentioned. Quite a few of my colleagues in the UK have picked up raspberry pis and seem quite pleased with them. > Another reason why I am writing the list is too see if anyone would want to > be involved or have old hardware to donate to our Open Stack project at our > hacker space (located at 905 Harrison St. Allentown, PA). Boy, I wish you'd asked about 18 months ago... but I'll see whether there's anything lingering in my closet. ;) -- rjbs -------------- next part -------------- A non-text attachment was scrubbed... Not all of the projects at the space are pure hardware. Anyone is welcome at the space with nearly any project or not project at all. We have a few people at the space that are coders (including one retired professor of Computer Science from Moravian College) and experience range between C, C++, Python, and Java (I'm sure we have some PERL guys there too). If anyone has any experience with beer brewing or interest, feel free to stop by the space! I know it's a project we would love to get up and running. Existing projects we have at the space are the following: - PCB Etchant tank with bubbler (making your own boards) - PCB toner transfer (old laser printer parts to fuse ink to copper boards for the tank) - Arduino class curriculum for the Da Vinci science center - Arduino based door chime (plays chip tunes of popular songs) - Blender based characters for a game - Beer chiller - Random destruction with capacitors (totally awesome might I add) - Car stereo/ computer stereo.
